Tough, tough weekend. Tough, tough flu goin' around and Tgod's got it. It seems to have centered itself in my lower back. After struggling my way through work Friday and Friday night, (I work two jobs)I thought maybe a much needed good nights rest could kick it. I'm in good shape at 42 and rarely get sick. But, Saturday morning, crawling out of bed was a painful struggle. There is nothing worse than lower back pain. Hurts when you walk. Hurts when you breath. Everyone was getting the flu and it was a tough strain, lasting for most, the better part of a week, and I was in the second day. Aching, sneezing, couldn't breath. I had two shows this weekend. I was on the guest list at The Starland Ballroom for both. (Hed)pe and Dry Kill Logic tonight and OTEP tomorrow. I was freakin' hurtin'!! I never made the Dry Kill show.

Now you know Tgod is hurting to miss a free show, but another good nights rest was most important. I would not miss OTEP. Especially since I was taking my son and his friends to the show. Tgod never lets the kids down. For Tgod, it's all about the kids. Plus, my 43rd birthday is Monday and I wouldn't want myself or anyone to think that I might be getting too old for this shiiaat. Don't ever even think that! I'll be in the pit when I'm 90! But, I'm freakin' hurtin' still. However, I have a feeling that when I walk into The Starland, I'll be much, much better. No school Monday. The house will be full of kids. My assistant, Donna, always takes care of me. Hell yeah. Feelin' a little better already.

There were seven bands, so the doors opened at five and we got there when the second band was on. I don't know who they were, but I did feel better walking in the place. Kids everywhere. Jersey kids. It was good to see. I got up front for THE AUTUMN OFFERING. They were good. Rowdy. Young kids from Florida. I was taking pics up front and Donna was taking a place up against the rail, where she would remain for the night. Some young Jersey girls were going crazy in the front over the lead singer. It was cool. The Jersey girls were out in large numbers for OTEP. It was good to see. Little girl power was everywhere. I don't want to sound like a perv. It's just awesome to see the Jersey kids out in numbers, and at 43 (almost), I'm still one of them. Girl power. It's like The Spice Girls of Metal. A wonderful freakin' thing! BLOODSIMPLE was up next and being more local, I already knew they were good. The singer and guitar player used to be in Vision of Disorder and I was a fan of theirs and now I'm a fan of BLOODSIMPLE as well. They stomp. They tested my back. It felt o.k. They got the kids surfin' and stompin'. I saw my son and friends testing the crowd, flying overhead and having fun. BLOODSIMPLE was awesome. The crowd wasn't too tight. It was just right. CANDIRIA was up next and although I never really got into them, I give them props for getting me in free on their guest list. I thank Type A Records for hookin' me up. Candiria hails from Brooklyn, so the NY hardcore kids were in the house. I took my pics and stepped aside. I never liked Candiria's music that much, but they sure know how to get the place stirred up. Starland has THE best security, so things didn't get too out of control, however there were a few ejections from fights which seems to be the norm for CANDIRIA, but that's the way things are, so I cleared out to wait for AMERICAN HEADCHARGE. I had seen them before and knew they were gonna be good, so I got my way back up front for them. They were no disappointment either. They rocked! Kicked butt! The lead singer jumped into the crowd right on my head. It was cool. I caught him and threw him back. He wasn't so lucky the second time, though. He dove into the crowd again, but the lights went out as he jumped and he hit the floor, cause no one saw him coming. Bad timing. He never lost his mic and kept on singing without missing a note. We eventually got him back up on the stage and HEADCHARGE finished an awesome set. Awesome set. Awesome sweat! I was tossing kids around everywhere and my back pain was all but forgotten.

I had seen OTEP at Ozzfest last year, but it was a brief set and my anticipation was much higher now. I had a photo pass, but I gave it to my son's friend Erica, so she could go around the barrier and take some pics for me. She's a huge OTEP fan, so I figured I'd give her an opportunity that she wouldn't normally get, cause I love doin' that for the kids. I was shooting from the crowd and Donna was still on the rail, so we didn't need it. She did good too. Got great shots! OTEP put on an outstanding performance. I think her "I am I" attitude is a positive for her scores of young fans. She really is strikingly beautiful up close and is a very good performer. She gives it her all and the kids really feel it. She has made a connection, no doubt, with the 11-20 year old crowd. The band kicks ass and it was an awesome show. A surfin' safari and that's always fun. Even the slower poetic numbers were done with alot of energy. A rousing encore with my personal favorite song, "Sacrilege" ended a great show. After the show, my son and his friends waited outside in the snow by OTEP'S bus, and she and the band came out and signed cd's and gave out hugs to the small gathering. That's class. Ive been around too many stars that won't even take two seconds to come off the bus to meet the fans and that sucks. Hell, if I knew she was giving out hugs, I would have been in line myself. I read that OTEP wanted to take on Corey(Slipknot), Jonathan(Korn), George(Cannibal Corpse), and Barney(Napalm Death) in an octave to octave challenge. Slow down girl, Tgod loves ya, and you could kick Jonathan and Corey's butts, but I wouldn't mess with the 'Corpsegrinder' and Barney is the greatest vocalist of all time, and they've got a few years on ya. They have 'staying' power. We'll see how long the girl power stays. I hope for twenty years. Then make challenges.
